Bolton Castle
Bolton Castle (or Castle Bolton as many people call it) is a mediaeval fortress. It was built in 1399 by Richard le Scrope, 1st Lord Scrope of Bolton and Lord Chancellor of England.
It's a place full of history. Mary Queen of Scots was once 'imprisoned' here by Queen Elizabeth 1st and during the Civil War it was besieged by Oliver Cromwell. It's well worth a visit and the views from the top are great. There's also a small shop selling souvenirs and a tea-room which serves home-made cakes, teas and light lunches.
